Congratulations David Zapata who formally committed to attend the United States Naval Academy on February 6, 2008.

David will spend a year at the Naval Academy Preparatory School in Newport, R.I. before entering the academy in Annapolis, MD


2007

2007 Rochester Chapter of Certified Officials SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD for Livingston County League was awarded to Hornell in Paetec Park on November 3, 2007.

Ontario-Honda Section V, Class B Offensive Player of the Year: David Zapata - Senior (23) - finishing the season with 220 rushes for 1,691 yards and 21 touchdowns. The award is shared with East Rochester/Gananda Quarterback, Neal Dotterer - completing 121 of 191 passes for 1,939 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Section V's All-Time Career Rushing Record: David Zapata - Senior (23) broke the record in week 5 (Friday, September 28) in front of Hornell's Homecoming crowd vs. HFL. Dave ended the game with a total of 5,566 yards. This record surpasses Churchville-Chili 2005 graduate, Kevin Collier's 5,402 yards. David ended the 2007 season and his high school career with 6,101 yards - ranking him 6th in NYS All-Time Career Rushing Yards behind Onondaga Graduate and University of Michigan senior Mike Hart's current record of 11,045. Hornell's previous career rushing record was held by Anthony Pollizi, a 2000 graduate, with 3,883 yards. David surpassed Anthony's record in the 2006 season.

Section V's All-Time Career Scoring Record: David Zapata - Senior (23) broke the record in week 8 (Friday, October 19) totaling 501 points, in front of a home crowd, during Section V Quarter Final Game vs. Pal-Mac. This record surpasses Cal-Mum graduate, Wade Rowcliff's ('94) 500 points.

Section V's All-Time Career Touchdown Record: David Zapata - Senior (23) broke the record in week 9 (Sunday, October 28) totaling 81 touchdowns, during Section V Semi Final Game vs. Geneva. This record surpasses Cal-Mum graduate, Wade Rowcliff's ('94) 80 touchdowns.

Ontario-Honda Section V, Class B Players of the Week

Week 4: Dave Zapata (Offensive) - Zapata, a 5’7”, 175-pound senior running back, rushed for 221 yards on 24 carries. He scored four touchdowns and completed an option pass for 58 yards and a fifth touchdown. Hornell beat Wayland-Cohocton 40-12.

 

 

 

2006

2006 Rochester Chapter of Certified Officials SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD for Livingston County League was awarded to Hornell.

Hornell School Career Rushing Yards Record: David Zapata - Junior (23) broke the record in game 8 (Sect. V quarter final vs. Livonia) reaching 4,007. David finished the season with 4,410 yards (2003-2006). The record was formerly held by Anthony Pollizi with 3,883 yards (1997-2000).

Section V, Class B Championship Awards (Hornell vs. Geneva), PAETEC PARK, Rochester, November 4: Outstanding Offensive Back - David Zapata -Junior (23); Outstanding Offensive Lineman - Sam Austin - Senior (74); Roger Bunce Sportsmanship Award - John Damrath - Senior (8).

Ontario-Honda Section V, Class B Players of the Week

Week 4: Chris Koehler (Defensive) - The 6'2", 215-pound senior defensive end executed 11 tackles, two sacks, and two forced fumbles. Six of the Hornell defensive end’s tackles were for losses. Red Raiders (42) - Livonia (12).

Week 5: David Zapata (Offensive) - The 5'9", 170-pound junior running back scored six touchdowns on jaunts of 1, 1, 15, 3, 51, and 74 yards and he only played half the game. Zapata had 18 carries for 301 yards, defeating Dansville 48 to 13. In five games to date Zapata has had 103 carries and has run thus far for 1,024 yards.

Week 7: David Zapata (Offensive) - The 5'9", 170-pound junior running back carried the ball 39 times for 174 yards and three touchdowns in a 22 to 7 win over LeRoy. Zapata scored touchdowns on runs of 3yards and two 1-yard runs. So far this season, Zapata has had 175 carries for 1,385 yards, and 24 touchdowns. Dan Bassage (Defensive) - The 6 ft., 233-pound senior linebacker made his presence felt in making 14 tackles in a 22 to 7 win over LeRoy.

Week 8: Dan Bassage (Defensive) - The 6 ft., 235-pound senior linebacker made 15 tackles in a 36 to 0 win over Livonia. Three of his tackles were for lost yardage.

2007 Class B, 1st Team All New York State:. David Zapata became the first Hornell football player to be named to 1st Team All New York State. David carried 269 times for 2,106 yards, 34 TDs, scoring 208 points in 2006 and carried 281 times for 2,236 yards, 25 TDs, scoring 167 points in 2005. Career: 569 carries, 4,410 yards, 60 TDs, 381 points. Only 993 yards, 20 TDs, 120 points from the Section V All Time Record.

2007 Class B, 2nd Team All New York State Defensive Lineman: Sam Austin is a 3 year starter for Hornell Football.
